Form negative simple future sentences

Form negative simple future sentences

We can form negative sentences in simple future tense with both "will" and "be going to" by adding not in the sentence. Let's take a look at how to do just that.

Using "will"

Structure
Subject + will not (won’t) + base form of the verb

Examples:

  • She will travel tomorrow. -> She will not travel tomorrow.

  • I will buy that book. -> I will not buy that book.

  • They will attend the meeting. -> They won’t attend the meeting.

Key Points:

  • "Will not" is often contracted to "won’t" in informal contexts.
  • The main verb remains in its base form, regardless of the subject.

Using "be going to"

Structure
Subject + am/is/are + not + going to + base form of the verb

Examples:

  • I am going to eat dinner. -> I am not going to eat dinner.
  • He is going to join the team. -> He is not going to join the team.
  • We are going to finish the project. -> We are not going to finish the project.

Key Points:

  • Use am, is, or are depending on the subject.

  • Contractions can be used for the verb "be":

    • I am not → I’m not.
    • He is not → He isn’t.
    • They are not → They aren’t.
