Forming negative sentences with past perfect continuous tense is very easy if we remember how to form negative sentences with past perfect tense. We can form negative sentences with past perfect continuous tense by adding not after helping verb had.

Structure
Subject + had not (hadn’t) + been + verb (-ing form) + object/complement.

Examples

  1. Assertive: She had been using her laptop regularly before it was broken.

    Negative: She hadn’t been using her laptop regularly because it broke.

  2. Assertive: They had been charging their phones, so the batteries stayed full.

    Negative: They hadn’t been charging their phones, so the batteries died.

  3. Assertive: He had been taking care of his diet, so he stayed healthy.

    Negative: He hadn’t been taking care of his diet, so he gained weight.

  4. Assertive: She had been driving that car despite its poor condition.

    Negative: She hadn’t been driving that car because it was in poor condition.

  5. Assertive: He had been jogging regularly before he joined the marathon training.

    Negative: He hadn’t been jogging regularly before he joined the marathon training.
